Papers of John Erskine [manuscript], 1898-1948.

Autograph manuscripts include the poem, "The Sunbeams," written for Cousin Grace and dated April 19, 1898 and the poem, "Childhood," copied, dated December 16, 1914, and signed by Erskine for the autograph collection of Howes Norris, Jr. Collection also includes a signed article, "A Teacher of literature," torn from a book, and a signed photograph of Erskine, dated November 14, 1948, photographed by James Abresch. Bulk of collection includes 12 letters from Erskine, dated from 1917 through 1941, which primarily discuss individual works or are responses for autographs. Works mentioned include the play, "Hearts enduring;" "The Moral obligation," and "Galahad." Two 1932 letters concern finding a toastmaster for the dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Author's Club; Erskine has spoken to James Howard Bridge concerning a toastmaster. Letter of January 13, 1941 to Margaret Sutton Briscoe shows Erskine's interest in her writing her memories. Correspondents include Glen W. Blodgett, Lola Kovener, Bryon Johnson Rees, Leo Leonard Twinem, Katherine Lee Bates, William Griffith, John Stuart Groves, J. John Munson, and Margaret Sutton Briscow.
